Greg Kochanowski, AIA, ALSA
Design Principal, Practice & Founder, The Wild: A Research Lab

Greg Kochanowski is a licensed architect, landscape designer, urbanist, and educator based in California. He is Partner and Director of Design at Practice, a Los Angeles architecture and design firm, and Founder of The Wild, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit examining the impacts of the climate crisis on cities and communities.

His research brings together housing, civic infrastructure, climate, and transdisciplinary design to explore how the built environment can foster resilience, equity, and belonging. His work is particularly concerned with holistic environments that negotiate among natural systems, culture, infrastructure, and development, and with forms of adaptation that extend to address shared risk, collective responsibility, and community continuity.

Greg’s work has been recognized by AIA, ASLA, and the Architectural League of New York, and exhibited at the Venice and Rotterdam biennales. He has lectured nationally and internationally on the Wildland–Urban Interface, climate adaptation, equitable recovery, trauma informed design, and the evolving role of the design professions in the age of climate.

His publications include 'The Wild' (2020), which examines the dynamics of wildfire in Los Angeles. He is currently completing 'Wildfire in the Expanded Field: Adaptive Design for Fire-Prone Futures', forthcoming from Routledge in 2027.

Greg serves on the Board of Directors of AIA Los Angeles, where he is Secretary and Co-Chair of the Wildfire Recovery Taskforce. He also serves on the board of the Community Design Group and is Adjunct Faculty at Woodbury University.
